Grant Types and Definitions

CDHE offers six Professional Development (PD) grants to individuals affiliated with CDHE member institutions. Each grant aligns with a specific strategic objective.

Community-Engaged Partnership Grant  Supports projects co-developed with community-based organizations to advance health equity and expose students to real-world public health and advocacy work (SO 3)  Strategic Objective 3: Institutional Collaboration 
Institutional Change Innovation Grant  Supports the development of a program or initiative aimed at achieving equity.  Strategic Objective 1: Research & Innovation 
Knowledge Exchange Grant  Supports collaborative teaching across institutions, especially between PWIs and HBCUs/MSIs. Funds travel, co-teaching prep, and implementation (SO: 2)  Strategic Objective 2: Dissemination of Best Practices 
Learning Grant  Supports software, technical training, or skill development.  Strategic Objective 4: Professional Development 
Leadership Development Grant  Funds short-term leadership training or development programs for early-career professionals or senior leaders in the healthcare field.  Strategic Objective 4: Professional Development 
Scholarship Dissemination Grant  Provides funding for publication fees, public scholarship activities, or costs associated with attending conferences, trainings, or workshops.  Strategic Objective 2: Dissemination of Best Practices 

Grant Cycle and Timeline

CDHE operates two grant cycles per fiscal year:

Fall  October 15  December 15  February 1  March 15 – August 31 

*Off-cycle proposals may be considered on a case-by-case basis.* 

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must: 
– Be affiliated with a CDHE member institution 
– Select only one strategic objective per application 
– Have met all prior reporting requirements if previously funded 
Submit a complete application during the open call period

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit: 

  • A 500-word narrative describing goals, intended impact, and who will benefit 
  • CV or resume of the applicant  
  • Evidence of invitation, acceptance, or registration for the opportunity (e.g., conference acceptance, event screenshot) 
  • Budget (if applicable) 
  • Acknowledgement form confirming understanding of reporting and payment expectations 
  • Community-Engaged Partnership Grant:  
  • A letter of support from the community partner 
  • How the findings will be shared with the community partner 

Payment and Reimbursement Policy

CDHE will prioritize direct payment to vendors (e.g., for conference or training registration). Reimbursements will be considered only if the applicant has already paid and submits valid receipts and proof of payment. Funding may not be used for retroactive activities without documentation. 

Reporting Requirements

All awardees must submit a report within 30 days of completing the funded activity, which includes: 

  • The impact of the grant 
  • Highlights and key takeaways 
  • Planned or actual applications of the knowledge gained 

Failure to submit a report renders applicants ineligible for the next grant cycle.
